I am a marine biologist "trapped" in a regular biologist's job. I do work on wetlands, estuaries, and beaches on occasion, which keeps me hydrated and happy. However, I mostly work with endangered species on land. I love nature and everything dealing with the ocean or water. I am passionate about marine invertebrates and marine ecology! I love jellyfish, snails, mollusks, pufferfish and marine invertebrates of all varieties. I have a fondness for lunamoths. I also love wetlands, especially mixed hardwood forests, cypress swamps, and pocosins. Karst formations and natural springs are very cool as well! The more I work in the field the more I realize that I am very much a plant person, especially when it comes to wetland plants. I particularly love sundews, pitcher plants, and bog-bachelor button. Cypress are among my favorite trees.
I am a classically trained singer who loves theatre and the stage, and I am a bellydancer. I am an artist as well and I enjoy drawing and painting. I don't get to do this very often however. I wish I could win the lottery so I can pursue singing, theatre, and art without worrying about income. I would still be very involved with wetland work and marine biology too, but I would be able to volunteer or work at jobs without caring about surviving off of an income. There are some really cool marine research labs that function off of student volunteerism.
I am in love with another marine biologist who is now teaching earth and space science. We met while performing in "Pirates of Penzance" together and, ironically, it just so happened that we were both interested in marine biology and science. Most of my family lives up north and I visit them as often as I can. My sister is an entomologist and shares many of the same loves and activities as I do. Growing up we used to fight constantly because we always had the same tastes and didn’t always want to share, but now she is my best friend. My family is the most important thing in my life and I love them dearly.
